Confessions of a Hat and Scarf Hunter

4/03/23

These photographs were taken on January 11, 2023 at 1:27 PM.

The location was at the last stop on my route which is in Largo, Maryland.

The "Take It!" Came as I had for several days - passed by this ever so random swath of white plastic which had been wind whipped around the trunk of a tree on the way to the entrance to this favorite hotel.

First - it had an almost purposeful look to how well placed around the tree it happened upon. Next - that it registered in my imaginative mind - as looking almost scarf like - caught my attention - as I am a distressed scarf rescue person - and pick up scarves to wash them and put them back into human usage. Last but not least - I surmised that this piece of refuse - had just not caught the eye of any hotel employee that might make the extra effort to stop and remove it as it - while interesting to me - would probably be viewed as unsightly by others and not give an appropriate positive impression upon arriving at the property.

I therefore - stopped - and wrapped the plastic around my wrist - until I had accumulated all of it - and had quite a cuff around my right wrist. I then proceeded to move into the driveway entrance and park the car. As there were no activities scheduled in the hotel - the lobby was essentially empty with the exception of the reception clerk, with whom I have a very pleasant acquaintanceship. She immediately saw the wrapped plastic on my arm - and I quickly said I would explain it to her with the assistance of the photographs which have been attached to this note. Her response was one of wonderful candor - in that she said she had passed this by on her way to work - and in the rush of getting to her job on time - did not take notice of this at all. I immediately said I understood - as I too had passed by this display several times myself and while noticing it - had not taken action to clear it up. She guided me to a trash receptacle where I did the unravel thing - of the plastic and deposited it for to go the way of their trash. She thanked me for my thoughtful act.

As chance would have it - several days later - I picked up a scarf from the street and have already put it through the special wash - and have it in the box I am collecting items in for delivery to the homeless next year when it starts to get cold again.

Small things like this - are all a part of the reason - I keep happily engaged in this part time job - in which I have been occupied for over 22 years.

Here is hoping what you are doing brings you joy.

All my very best,

Bruce

I'm trying to imagine a reason for such a giant piece of plastic to be wrapped around a tree. Was it placed on the tree intentionally, or did it blow there?

I worked in customer service while I put myself through college a few centuries ago. I loved it when people came in having fun. It meant they weren't coming in angry lol.

This is the perfect picture to summarize the global warming crisis.
